- "In-app purchases": This label tells you something can be bought inside the app: Premium, extra images or hints. It doesn't tell you whether that's a one-time purchase or a subscription. The description or the app itself will.
- The description: Look for "one-time purchase", "no subscription" or "ad-free with Premium". "Free" on its own never means "no ads".
- The reviews: Search the reviews for "ads". Players tend to mention how often ads appear and whether they pop up mid-puzzle.
What are your options for jigsaw puzzles without ads?
There are four, and each one costs something.

There's a fifth option that costs nothing: stay with a free app and pay attention to when it shows ads. An ad between two puzzles feels very different from one that pulls you out halfway through a sky full of blue pieces.
Your phone settings won't fix this. Deleting your advertising ID on Android changes how personalized ads are, according to Google, but you may still see ads (Google, Advertising and privacy). The number of ads stays the same.
Is there a jigsaw puzzle app with fewer ads?
"Fewer" is hard to compare, because few apps publish how often they show ads. Timing is easier to judge than a promise of "less". Ask two things: can an ad ever start while you're placing pieces, and are video ads something you choose or something that happens to you? If the store listing doesn't answer that, the reviews usually do.
